National Foster Grandparent Program

Federally funded by the Corporation for National Community Service, the Foster Grandparent Program is an intergenerational senior corps volunteer service that offers participants the opportunity to provide personal one-on-one services to children with exceptional or special needs. Our seniors are 55+ and aim to share their wisdom, experience, and compassion with a child. As volunteers they assist teachers in child care centers and throughout the Cleveland Municipal School District. Qualified seniors are screened and trained to participate in the program to meet high standards of service required by educational institutions such as child care centers and schools.

The Foster Grandparent Program sponsored by East End Neighborhood House is the only one that exists in the Cleveland area and has been hosted by East End for over 30 years. Most Recently FGP joined the Cleveland Foundation’s Encore network of volunteer opportunities for seniors who are wanting to stay engaged with the community thru service.
